Voltage Power Optimisation

No other technology optimises your electricity power supply and reduces your energy consumption, costs and carbon footprint, whilst also giving you greater supply security and protection from transients.

It is for these reasons that I am pleased to work closely with PowerPerfector to offer a remarkable opportunity to "micro-manage" the power supply as it enters your business.

90% of buildings use more electricity than they need and Voltage Power Optimisation:

  • reduce kWh consumption by up to 20% and hence carbon emissions

  • reduce electricity costs by up to 22%

  • reduce maintenance costs

  • reduce carbon emissions by up to 22%

  • reduce reactive power by up to 45% and hence improve power quality and power factor

  • protect electrical equipment from transients and suppress harmonics

for the technical stuff drop to the bottom of the page.

But don't just take my word for it - here are just a selection of the organisations currently benefiting from this technology (list supplied by PowerPerfector).....

Is it suitable for your business? Will you save electricity?
Voltage Power Optimisation is currently achieving savings across all types of businesses from office buildings to manufacturing sites and engineering works to refrigeration stores, warehouses, data centres, call centres, leisure centres, galleries and farms.

What are the guarantees?
My advice is never to buy this type of technology unless it comes with a performance guarantee which can only come as a result of a site survey by a specialist contractor.  I am pleased to advise that the three main companies involved in supply of these systems in the UK all provide an ethical service and price their equipment  according to what is costs to fit not what it might save you over a 2-year period for example.

Contact me to help you achieve your financial and carbon reduction targets through Voltage Power Optimisation.

PowerPerfector even provide a free initial evaluation process.....

To find out the size of your opportunity to save electricity, money and emissions there are 4 simple and free steps to complete to know accurately what the cost/value of an installation is at your site/s:

Step 1 - Please send me the following data, which will remain confidential

A. The highest maximum demand in the last year for each of the incoming supplies to your building (from this I can size the unit required)

B. The total kWh consumption for the last 12 months on each incoming supply.

C. The cost of supply for the last 12 months including CCL if you are not buying “Green” or your price per kWh for the next year.

Send the data on any sites that you would like financially assessed, I will send you an estimate of the installation cost/value of the voltage optimisation equipment and email it back to you for your review before the next step.

Step 2 - If you like the numbers – I will get a data-logger sent to you.

The voltage logger will be sent recorded delivery and you simply plug it into a 3 pin plug point for a week to measure your voltage profile, and return it to me to analyse. I will send you your existing voltage profile and your optimisation level with an amended calculator page

Step 3 - Next I need to survey the site.

If you are happy with the financials and wish to go ahead I will arrange for an engineer to survey your site and cost the installation, so that I can give you the capped cost and estimated savings.

As a result of the survey I will put together a full proposal at this stage, outlining what the technology is; the process that has been undertaken to evaluate the costs, the opportunity for optimisation and the savings.  This will also include the terms and conditions, guarantees, insurances and also relevant case studies. The proposal is intended to act as a full report that can be taken straight to the decision makers to demonstrate the business case.

Step 4 - Installation

If your unit is held in UK stock it can be delivered immediately or if it needs to be ordered, delivery time is typically 8 to 12 weeks. Delivery and installation will be arranged at a time that best suits your operational requirement and the unit can be installed by either your preferred electrical contactor or the suppliers own installation contractor. Installation time varies with the size of the unit and will take anything from 2hrs upwards with pre-cabling conducted first to minimise the required shut down time.

The ProductInternal arrangement of a medium size powerPerfector

There is a range of V.P.O. equipment to meet the needs of smaller enterprises up to the largest industrial consumers.  The main feature of this gear is its ability to optimise and improve the incoming voltage for a whole site and therefore cut energy costs. This reduces energy bills and also improves the efficiency of electrical equipment.

Technical Information

PowerPerfector Schematic

Voltage Power Optimisation (VPO) is designed to address a number of common power supply problems in a single unit. Uniquely, all these improvements are achieved through the internal interaction of magnetic fields, with no active suppression or compensation, meaning that moving parts or electronics are not required. The design is extremely efficient and its performance and reliability are unmatched by any technology available in the UK today.

VPO has the following primary functions:

1. Incoming voltage – typically around 240V for sites in the UK – is brought to the optimum operating level for most equipment at around 220V. Equipment downstream will then consume less energy than with the over-voltage conditions normally prevalent in the UK. In motors, for example, over-voltage drives the core into saturation, which wastes energy as heat. PowerPerfector corrects this with 99.9% efficiency across its entire operating range, so the resulting savings are not offset by energy loss in the unit itself.

2. Voltages on the three supply phases are balanced by the regulating effect of the PowerPerfector’s star-connected secondary windings. Improvements in phase balancing of over 20% have been observed, which dramatically increases the efficiency of 3-phase AC motor equipment, common in air distribution systems.

3. A harmonic filter is integrated into the design of the VPO giving an attenuation in Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). As harmonics are potentially damaging to electronic equipment, and known to reduce the efficiency of high voltage (HV) transformers, this is an important function that delivers tangible energy-saving benefits. Post-installation, a site is generally in compliance with the G5/4 requirements on harmonic emissions.

4. As a result of the improvements in power quality, a typical installation will bring the Power Factor of a site closer to unity by 0.02 – 0.1. This may alleviate the need for additional Power Factor Correction (PFC), although the PowerPerfector is fully compatible with this type of equipment. Considerable reductions in reactive power have been achieved, reducing penalty charges from electricity suppliers.

5. PowerPerfector will protect a site from transients up to 25kV, which can have a devastating effect on sensitive electronic equipment. As transients become more common due to increased switching on the grid, this provides a vital defence for critical IT systems.
